Air Canada is the flag carrier and the largest airlines in Canada for the fleet size and the number of passengers they carry. Founded in 1937, the airlines offer scheduled and charter air transport for passengers and cargo. Right now the airlines operate to 207 destinations in the entire world. It is working with the Star Alliance from its inception. Air Canada’s headquarter is located in Montreal. The airline’s regional service is Air Canada Express. In 1936, Canadian Federal government created Trans-Canada Airlines (TCA) which later formed Air Canada. They began operating their first transcontinental flight routes in 1938. In 1965, TCA was renamed Air Canada following government approval. After the deregulation of the Canadian airlines market in the 1980s, the airlines was privatized in 1988. Air Canada acquired its largest rival, Canadian Airlines on 4 January 2000.
In 2003, the airlines filed for bankruptcy protection and in the following year emerged and reorganized under the holding company ACE Aviation Holdings Inc. In 2017, Air Canada flew 11 million passengers, as the airlines celebrated its 80th anniversary.
To make its passengers travel with ease, Air Canada has refurbished its economy fares for North America into five tiers. On 4 April 2018, the new fare structure was applied on both Air Canada and Rouge flights within North America. The Basic tier offers cheap tickets but it does not add miles or allow changes or upgrades. You can check your bags and select seats for a fee. This fare appears only on selected routes and through Air Canada’s directs distribution channels. In Standard tier, this fare includes seat selection and changes for a fee. Mileage accrues at 50 percent for trans-border flights and 25 percent for domestic flights. Flex fare includes a free checked bag and full mileage accrual. In Comfort tier, the fare comes with additional benefits, including same-day standby, early boarding, access to Preferred Seats and a free alcoholic beverage. Mileage accrual bumps to 115 percent. The fare is fully refundable and includes two free checked bags, same-day changes and a voucher for Air Canada Bistro. Mileage accrues at a rate of 125 percent. Air Canada Signature Service enthralls passengers with premium travel experience with a signature Class cabin which was known as International Business Class in the past. This service is available on board on all routes. Moreover, the Signature Service guarantees smooth airport services with dedicated check-in counters, accelerated security clearance, lounge entree, special boarding lanes, priority baggage handling and more. Air Canada Signature Class customers enjoy exclusive services on board with cordiality and amenities. The carrier’s operating divisions include Air Canada Cargo, Air Canada Express, Air Canada Jetz (private jet charters), and Air Canada Rouge (leisure airlines). With its regional partners, the airline operates on average more than 1,602 scheduled flights daily. “Air Canada recognizes that people have different requirements when they travel, so we are expanding the range of choice for our Economy customers with our new suite of fares. Each fare type offers customers specific attributes as well as options to purchase additional benefits and amenities that vary based on the type selected, such as extra legroom, upgrade eligibility, or lounge access,” said Lucie Guillemette, Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer at Air Canada.
When Canada’s economy stammers, one sector is proving astonishingly strong. That is tourism by keeping Canadian vacationers at home and luring Americans north, the low loonie is providing a much-needed boost. Bigger than mining, forestry or agriculture, tourism is emerging as a key growth industry. Airlines of a particular country possess high influence on strengthening its tourism sector. Air Canada has upgraded so fast that its passengers now relish on an enhanced menu, a new amenity kit, chauffeur service in a BMW at its hubs during domestic to international connections, and access to the Air Canada Signature Suite at Toronto-Pearson Airport. In May 2018, Air Canada listed Taiwan as part of China under the requirement of Chinese civil aviation administration. On 6 June 2018, Air Canada and Air China signed a joint venture, the first joint venture between a North American and Chinese airline. Air Canada had flown a number of fifth freedom routes (passenger and cargo rights between two non-Canadian destinations).
